Pool barrier rules in WA
Fence heights, gates and climbable zones explained simply.
The basics
Private pools deeper than 300mm need a compliant barrier. Fences are generally at least 1.2m high with gaps under 100mm, and a non-climbable zone around the outside.
Gates
Gates must swing away from the pool, self-close and self-latch from any position.
Inspections
Your local council inspects pool barriers at least every four years. Always confirm the current rules with your council.
